Eating the frog with a Pomodoro

I performed three different experiments using the Pomodoro technique that I just learnt from an online course. First task was about cleaning my room. Usually, I clean my working station weekly and preferably on Sunday. But, last Sunday, I could not manage it due to busy schedule. Now, today it is Tuesday and when I knew about productivity concept, I challenged myself to perform that missed assignment as early as it could be because already, I had decided to fix it on coming weekend. However, I did not set my timer and focused on fixing things around the room in minimum time. There was a distraction from my younger cousin as she was insisting me to go with her in the market so that she could buy some candies etc. I usually prefer not to reject her any time but this time since I was working under a special Pomodoro technique therefore, I only focused on my work and managed to agree her on another alternative. Obviously, if would not be working on guidelines then my cousin surely would have distracted me, and productivity would have been declined. I leaned on my clean bed for 1 to 2 minutes and I was feeling totally free. So, after it I marked my first tick on paper.

2nd task was about my pending letter. I was working on my Motivational letter few days ago. Rough draft of the main letter was almost ready, and it needed some refinements and modifications. I was delaying it for about a week may be because my brain was under the instant gratification monkey. However, I took responsibility and initiative to do it now. This time I set my alarm on mobile for right 25 minutes. I was amazed to notice that about half of the task I performed in only 20 minutes. I was so excited that I took my break even before timer. My mobile phone was continuously buzzing about notifications during these 20 minutes. So, I checked my WhatsApp for few minutes along with enjoying a candy given by my younger cousin. It was a slight challenge to come back on track. Moreover, I rescheduled my alarm and kept hands on the keyboard. Second, time it was difficult to focus. I was about to give up and pick back my phone. But somehow, got few of the stuck ideas to continue my work till end. Alarm ringed and my task was not finished yet. I just ignored it and kept on typing. After 8 minutes of alarm, I was able to finish it. I am super happier to do it so quickly. After that I kept on surfing with social media for about half an hour. I clicked my 2 ticks after completing this experiment.

Just focus and try to finish before the timer rings!

3rd trial that I attempted using the similar technique was involved with the online course 2 from the PW-4. It was a lengthy course than other ones. I set my alarm for 25 minutes. It was an evening time here. I just enrolled and commenced taking notes on my diary from the course. Unfortunately, my internet package ended right after 19 minutes as it is a weekly basis package with a specific time limit during the day. However, due to commitment and right focus I was done with three sections of the course. Although it was not finished but I avoided each distraction during the time because I wanted to finish at least 4 sections of it till the alarm time. But still, I feel productive with my effort and marked my 4th tick on the page. Now, next sections of the course would be completed today because I am writing about yesterday’s experience, now.

It was absolutely a focusing task to perform and it really requires your patience. As it is a popular quote that it takes almost 21 days to develop a new habit. So, from now I would be implementing this Pomodoro technique regularly for next three weeks so that I could develop my habit to work productively. I also have a plan to improve my performance in focusing. It is about my favorite treat items. I love to eat some candies and dry fruits while working. So, as a gift I would be awarding these things to myself. Hope so, I could become more productive because of these lovely things. I am also going to manage many things timely regularly from now on so that I can get my sleep power by going early to the bed. Since, a proper sleep is very crucial for your productivity therefore, managing your work before sleep time is a part of practicing the habit of being productive.
